Vernon Joseph Scribner

Vernon Joseph Scribner of Lawai passed away on Aug. 25, 2018, at the age of 80.

He is survived by wife Patricia and sons David, Mark (Yvette) and Vernon Jay (Rochelle) Scribner, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Private services were held.

Borthwick Kauai Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Peter John Borrero Jr.


Peter John Borrero Jr. 79, of Lihue, passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on Aug. 28, 2018.

Born on April 12, 1939 on Oahu, he was a retired superintendent.

He was preceded in death by wife Lorraine Borrero, son Donley Borrero, parents Peter and Annie Borrero Sr., brothers Phillip, Richard and Raymond Borrero, and sister Posie Reese.

He is survived by sons Derek (Michele) Borrero and Darrell (Kris) Borrero, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, sisters Sylvia Troche and Matilda Yaris, brother Rudy Borrero, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, Sept. 14, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary chapel in Koloa from 9 to 9:45 a.m., where services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. A luncheon will follow on the chapel lanai, and inurnment will follow at 2 p.m. at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests casual attire.

Lorraine Teruko Harada

Lorraine Teruko Harada, 73, of Wainiha, passed away at home on Aug. 7, 2018. She was born in Lihue on Sept. 10, 1944, and retired from the state Department of Education at Hanalei School.

She was preceded in death by parents Susumu and Harumi Harada, sister Aileen Harada, and brothers Stuart Harada and Wayne Harada.

She is survived by sisters Pauline Harada, Keikilani Harada and Beth Harada, and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Sept. 9, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and services celebrated at 11 a.m., and the Tai Hook Residence.

Inurnment will be held at a later date at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
