Florence Lizares Duarte
Florence Lizares Duarte, 87, of Kapaa passed away at home on Aug. 11, 2018. She was born in Haiku, Maui on Jan. 3, 1931, and retired as a store manager with Tony’s Mini Mart.
Preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Wallace Duarte; parents, Vicente and Theodora Lizares; brothers, Pedro Lizares, Benjamin “Ben” Lizares, Phillip Lizares, Charles “Charlie” Lizares; sisters, Clara Cubero, Helen Rumbaoa, Lillian Traya, Grace Marie Glory, Irene Ruth Renio, Leonora Lizares, Leonara “Judy” Lovelace, Christine “Chris” Ramsay, Rosaline “Rosie” Amis, Genevieve “Sue” Hamada, Theodora “Ronnie” Lagon.
Florence is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline (Alfredo Jr.) Garces, Cheryl (Scott) Brede; 4 grandchildren, Kristy Arruda, Angela (Billy) Farias, Curran (Gabrielle) Doctolero, Courtney Brede; 10 great-grandchildren, Shelcee Camat, Gordon “Koni” Camat III, Jhaiston Lumacad, Brayden (Dayna) Farias, Breena Farias, Brevin Farias, Micah Doctolero, Waika Doctolero, Anela Doctolero, Ikaika Doctolero; 4 great-great grandchildren, Kanoa Farias, Javen Camat, Lilly Fabro, Brenten Farias; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at St. Catherine’s Church with viewing from 9 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Takashi Hashimura
Takashi Hashimura, 94 years old of Eleele, Kauai, passed away on July 21, 2018, at Garden Isle Rehabilitation Healthcare Center.
Born on March 2, 1924, in Kukuiula, Kauai, he was a retired field laborer of McBryde Sugar Company and also served in the United States Army.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eimatsu and Hideyo Hashimura; wife, Asano Hashimura; brother, Katsumi Hashimura; sister, Doris Hironaka.
He is survived by his son, Gene (Marie) Hashimura of Wailua Houselots, Kauai; daughters, Deborah Hashimura of Honolulu, Oahu Sandra Takizawa of Honolulu, Oahu; 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; brother, Hiroki (Yuki) Hashimura of Kaneohe, Oahu; sisters, Nancy (Wallace) Nakamoto of Chicago, Illinois, Helen Fujimoto of Seattle, Washington; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at Hanapepe Hongwanji Mission from 9 to 9:45 a.m. where memorial services and celebration of his life will be at 10 a.m. Military honors inurnment will be at 2:30 p.m. at Kauai Veterans Cemetery.

Valerie Ann Mui Ying Wong Poai, 69 years old of Kapaa, Kauai, passed away on Aug. 5, 2018, at her home in Kapaa.
Born on May 27, 1949, in Lihue, Kauai, she was retired as a school based health nurse with the Department of Education.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold “Ah Lok” Wong and Mary Huddy Wong; husband, Mike Poai.
She is survived by her son, Michael “Roven” Poai, Kapaa; daughters, Mei Lin (Kahuwila) Kanakaole of Kapaa, Malia (Ross) Gusman of Kapaa, Maile Poai of Kapaa, Stacy Poai of CA; brothers, Sam (Linda) Wong of Kapaa, Dennis (Cheryl) Wong of Wailua; sisters, Moki (Freckles) Smith of Kapaa; grandchildren, Breana Poai, Bryson Poai, Brayden Poai, Kahuwila Kanakaole and Kam Lin Kanakaole; great-grandson, Trysten Poai; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2018, at Smith’s Tropical Paradise Gardens from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Felipe Lacaden, 74 years old, of Kapaa, Kauai, passed away on Aug. 11, 2018, at his home in Kapaa, Kauai.
Born on Feb. 8, 1944, in Lihue, Kauai, Felipe was a dishwasher for Smith’s.
He is survived by his wife, Corazon Pabro Lacaden; daughters, Stacie (Matthew) Lopes, Rhoda Lacaden; son, Janssen Chad Lacaden; sisters, Marina Ahnee, Fedela Hao Helen (Allen) Somalpong, Laura Ballas, Marivic Lacaden; brothers, Fernando (Dayne) Lacaden, Neal (Debra) Lacaden, Angelito Ruguian; 11 Grandchildren; 9 Great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Teruko Umetsu, 93, of Kapaa, Kauai, passed away on July 27, 2018, at Hale Kupuna Heritage Home, Omao, Kauai.
Born on Sept. 5, 1924, in Kapahi, Kauai, she was a retired billing clerk with Wilcox Hospital.
She was preceded in death by husband, Kichiro Umetsu; son, Gordon Umetsu; daughter, Lynette Umetsu; sisters, Chiyo Tamayose and Evelyn Brandt; and brother, Kiyoshi Miyasato.
She is survived by son, Calvin (Donna) Umetsu of Eleele; daughters, Carol (Allan) Aceret of Las Vegas, Gail (Larry) Lee of Wailua, Lisa (Kenneth) Kimura of Wailua, 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Shigeru (Yuriko) Miyasato of Kapahi, Shinao (Aiko) Miyasato of Honolulu; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, Aug. 25, at Kapaa United Church of Christ, from 3:30 p.m. Services will be celebrated at 4 p.m. The family suggests casual attire.
