If you are a resident, you should have these items on hand at all times. If you are a visitor and don’t find these things in your accommodation, ask the operator of your hotel or vacation rental.
If a hurricane strikes, you will need:
• Portable radio
• Extra batteries
• Flashlights
• Battery-powered lantern(s)
• Matches or lighter
• Water purification equipment
• First aid kit
• 14-day supply of prescription medications
• Ice chest and ice
• 14-day supply of drinking water, predicated on one gallon per day per person
• 14-day non-perishable food supply (including can opener)
• Sleeping bags or blankets
• Plastic tarp
• Personal toiletry articles and sanitary needs
• Toilet paper
• Change of clothing for each household member
• Portable stove or grill
• Fuel for stoves, hibachis and lanterns
• Cash (in small bills)
• Emergency generator
• Copies of important documents in waterproof container
• Pet supplies (food, water, crate, etc.)
• Supplies for family members with special needs (e.g. infants, elderly, disabled)
Don’t leave home without it, pack some heat for those looters who’ll steal all your valuables when you’re not there to guard your home.
