• A look back at the sugar era, hosted by Grove Farm at Koloa Mill, 9 to 11 a.m. Reservations required as space is limited. Call 245-3678, ext. 2542 to reserve space. A suggested $3 donation is to assist Koloa School. Visit the area where the Hawaii sugar industry got started. Learn historical information about Koloa Mill. Former McBryde Sugar Company employees will be on hand to “talk story” about plantation life. View the exterior of the Koloa Mill and take a ride to Waita Reservoir and the Wilcox Tunnel. Reservations required as shuttle seating is limited.

Like how many Hawaiians were working on the sugar plantation or how many Japanese were working on the sugar plantation? I am figuring out what was the average life expectancy then? There are no longer sugar plantations on the island. They had a harsh life. Blue collar laborers are these laborers. Obviously the outlook weren’t too good in the area of life and longevity.
