Yayoi Yajima Hashimoto

Yayoi Yajima Hashimoto of Koloa died at Garden Island Health Care on May 9, 2018, at the age of 87.

She was born Sept. 24, 1930, in Yokohama, Japan, and was a pantry cook at Waiohai and Poipu Beach Hotel for 29 years.

She is survived by son Harlan (Kay) Hashimoto of Honolulu, son Ross Hashimoto of Koloa, daughter Nan Starling of Mililani, six grandchildren, and brothers and sisters living in Japan.

No funeral services are planned. Her ashes to be interred with husband Harry H. Hashimoto at Punchbowl Cemetery.

Borthwick Kauai Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.

Ryan Lucas Joel

Ryan Lucas Joel, 19, of Wailua Homesteads, passed away on May 25, 2018. He was born on Guam on Jan. 12, 1999, and worked in construction.

He is survived by mother Yumileen Joel, brothers Rico Joel, Jonny Joel, McKenzie Joel and David Joel, sister Laleia Joel, two nephews, and numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 13, at Kealia Cemetery, with graveside services beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
