Gary Smith, waving his cap, takes application to the church where Josie Pablo serves as the Right Reverend, Tuesday during the beach outing to Lydgate Park with the Kilauea Social Club, including Steve Belmonte, Dennis Apilado, Smith, and Jordan Kahananui.

There is still time. If you’re reading this before 9 a.m., keiki can still register for the free football camp headed by University of Hawaii football coach Nick Rolovich and his staff at the Vidinha Stadium.

Brandon Shimokawa said it’s only once a year, and it happens from Friday when the Lihue Hongwanji Mission hosts its bon dance with the plate lunches starting at 5 p.m., the country store, games and food booth opening at 6 p.m., and the dancing starting at 7:30.

Kudos to Josie Pablo, Joanna Nishimura, Steve Kline, Placido Valenciano (he said the lychee is good!) and the many hands who got 41 residents of the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital and the Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital to the Lydgate Park, Tuesday!

Josie even got Steve Belmonte, Dennis Apilado, Gary Smith and Jordan Kahananui of the Kilauea Social Club (and where was the pakini bass player?) to provide live entertainment.

Josie said the residents will also be part of the Mayor-a-Thon coming up Saturday at the Kapaa Beach Park. Registration starts at 6 a.m.
