“People are still coming out with needs,” Pittsley-Fox said. “We recently knocked on a lady’s door. She peeked out and said everything was alright. But when she opened the door, there were moldy things everywhere, and places where mud was caked up. People are willing to forego their own needs to let others get taken care of. If we hadn’t knocked on her door, that aunty would have never come for help.”
Derrick Kessler, manager of Keoki’s Paradise, said the proceeds represent the one-day A Generous Slice of Hula Pie campaign for disaster relief that was held on May 12. On that day, proceeds from the sale of Hula Pie at all 13 TR Restaurants were set aside for disaster relief from the recent rains that created flooding on both Oahu and Kauai.
“A portion of the proceeds — $4,000 — was sent to Nalu Farms on Oahu,” Kessler said. “Malama Kauai will receive $8,000 for disaster relief work on Kauai.”
TR Restaurants, including Keoki’s Paradise and Duke’s, are part of the community, and the effort is a way of giving back to the community that support them.
