HANAPEPE — Tajayah Smith had the biggest fish and Kristy Kato snared the most fish Saturday when the West Kauai Lions Club hosted its third annual Youth Fishing Derby on the banks of the Hanapepe River.
HANAPEPE — Tajayah Smith had the biggest fish and Kristy Kato snared the most fish Saturday when the West Kauai Lions Club hosted its third annual Youth Fishing Derby on the banks of the Hanapepe River.
“Lion Charlie Ortiz chaired this event which was extremely successful,” said Eric Nordmeier. “The weather was perfect, and there were many families who turned out.”
Kaytilyn Apilado and Shai-lein Acosta finished as the first and second place award winners in the Over 13 age group, earning a share of the prizes that included reel-and-pole sets, tackle boxes and drinking jugs.
Brennan Kato and sirrah Apilado were the top two prize winners in the 11-13 age group, and Leila Apilado topped the 8-10 age group. Anthony Udarbe and Kalae Sahut ended in a tie for second place in the class with third place honors going to Aleiya Acosta Batis.
Tehya Marie Catbagan topped the Under 8 class followed by Carmela Udarbe and Rizalden Angala.
“Mahalo to all the families who came out to spend time together on this outing,” Nordmeier said.
