HANALEI — The Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay Hale made a substantial donation to Halawai Hanalei to help flood recovery.
“The club had an anonymous donor give $100,000,” said Monica Oszust, president of the Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay, “They wanted it to help North Shore families, specifically. Hale Halawai coordinated the list of 17 families who will benefit from this contribution, and everything had to be cleared by the Rotary board. This all took place in a matter of days, and the $85,000 represents a portion of the original contribution. We have some left because the list is still being worked on.”
Oszust said the Rotary Club of Hanalei has been busy since the flooding took place about three weeks ago.
“We wanted to support the North Shore Lions and the Hanalei Merchant Hop,” she said. “But the club was involved with a matching funds relief drive with Lava Lava and the Bayada Home Health Care where $57,000 was presented to Malama Kauai for disaster relief.”
Additionally, Oszust said the Rotary Club of Hanalei dropped off a check for $5,000 to Aloha Lumber to cover costs of lumber and building materials for a family in Kealia who lost its home.
“We have been very busy,” Oszust said. “At least, this week we get to go to the Rotary Conference.”
