LIHUE — The Kauai Police Department is asking Kauai residents and businesses to register alarm systems, or renew existing registrations, in compliance with the Kauai County Code.
“All residential and commercial alarms must be registered with the Kauai Police Department prior to activation or installation,” said Alden Alayvilla, spokesman for the County of Kauai.
The fee to register an alarm is $25 for the first year and $10 upon renewal for each subsequent year.
Owners of unregistered alarms or those failing to renew registrations could face fines up to $100 for each occurrence responded to by KPD.
To register an alarm system, obtain an application at www.kauai.gov/police or at Alarm Records and Billing, 3990 Kaana St., Suite 200, Lihue, at KPD headquarters.
Alarm renewal reminders are emailed to registered alarm holders 30 days prior to expiration. However, it is the responsibility of the alarm holder or user to keep the account current to avoid fines or fees, Alayvilla said.
