WAILUA — Kauai police responded to a two-car crash Sunday evening, on Kuhio Highway in Wailua just north of the south-junction of Leho Drive.
The crash occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. when a Toyota pickup truck traveling in the outer northbound lane attempted to make a U-turn in the middle of the highway.
As it was making the turn, a Chrysler station wagon traveling in the inner northbound lane collided with the truck.
The driver of the Toyota truck, a 25-year-old Kapaa man, did not sustain any injuries from the crash. The female driver of the Chrysler station wagon, a 35-year-old Kapaa woman, and her 6-month-old baby passenger did not appear to have life-threatening injuries at the scene. They were both transported to Wilcox Hospital for further evaluation.
During their response, police diverted northbound traffic through Leho Road and southbound traffic through the northbound lanes of Kuhio Highway. All lanes were reopened about 8:30 p.m.
Police cited the Kapaa man for reckless driving and crossing double solid yellow lines.
