LIHUE — A Fifth Circuit Court jury found Koa Navarro, 32, of Kapaa, guilty as charged Thursday morning of a single count of assault in the third degree, for his involvement in attacking a man near the Kauai Beach Resort on March 22, 2017.
Assault in the third degree is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail.
Witness testimony and other evidence showed that just after midnight that evening, Navarro approached a man, accused him of talking to his girlfriend, and punched him in the face several times.
Fifth Circuit Chief Judge Randal G.B. Valenciano presided over the three-day jury trial.
Navarro has previous convictions for harassment in 2014 and assault in the third degree in 2011. Navarro will be sentenced on June 21.
“Alcohol, jealousy and fists can be a dangerous combination,” said Prosecuting Attorney Justin F. Kollar. “People must find other ways to resolve their disputes. This individual has a pattern of engaging in violent behavior, which is particularly troubling.”
Prosecuting Attorney Justin F. Kollar. “People must find other ways to resolve their disputes …” Mr. Kollar is a fraud. I lived in a complex with David Roger, a man who beat his domestic partner, and Paul Bin Chong Say, a known drug dealer and man who also beat his girlfriend. They were extorting money from me. I contacted KPD. They were uninterested; I contacted Mr. Kollar; he was too busy. Police and authorities do nothing, forcing citizens to “deal with the jungle” the best they can.

Scott, I read your link. A few of the names caught my attention and I know them well, as one is a life long friend of my wife.
Sometimes a person can only do so much and we have to just let things go. It’s hard to do.
Sometimes I think I know you because you used to comment so much.
After reading the entire article what I kept saying to myself was
” why is Scott staying in that situation? ” With a resume’ like yours
why are you renting a room with, in my opinion, some of the biggest
derelicts on the island?
I wouldn’t wish what you are/went through on anyone. Maybe try to set a little distance?
Aloha BillyJoeBob,
Appreciate your feedback. You are correct. I should have left immediately. After years working WITH government, I believed and trusted the system. I teamed with the off-property owner. I contacted KPD. I reached out to Mr. Kollar.
I also have a strong sense of civil responsibility. I’m a “privileged” White male. We have money and could have run. I wanted to clean up the area for ourselves, the neighbors, and the people in the Hanalei area. I failed. I thought I had a team around me and bit off more than I could chew.
Costly lesson and YOU are correct. Better just to leave rather then try fix problems on Kaua’i. This is why crime persists. Smart people move!
Ain’t nothing good happens near bars late into the night.
Hey, the little man might have been justified. It doesn’t take much to steal away a local dude’s girlfriend on this island. Just a few kind words will do it…and maybe this abusive little punk was aware of that.
