KOLOA — The Boys &Girls Club, Waimea received $12,500 Wednesday courtesy of the Rotary Club of Poipu and Koloa Surf Company.
Rotarian Chris Young said the award was made “to keep the doors of the Westside Boys &Girls Club open.”
“This is a good facility, and badly needed out there,” Young said.
The club operates at the Westside Technical Center and Visitor Center and gets a good deal on rent, Young said. But they need help with maintenance fees and the electricity bill.
“This will hopefully keep them operating,” Young said.
The $12,500 award to the Boys &Girls Club, Waimea was based on Koloa Surf Company raising $5,625, the Rotary Club of Poipu matching that amount, and adding an additional $1,250.
JR Guerrero, Waimea manager, said students from Eleele Elementary School catch The Kauai Bus to be able and participate in the popular after-school program.
The needs and interests of B&G Club members are met through programs offered around the five core program areas, including character and leadership development, health and life skills, arts and culture, and sports, fitness and recreation.
The Rotary Club of Poipu will be hosting the One Fine Evening fundraiser Saturday at the Kilohana Luau Pavilion. Proceeds help with community projects, scholarships and grants.
