KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The trace of a 911 call mistakenly gave Clinton police an address where the call didn’t originate — and where a Clinton officer and shooter were killed.
The 911 call actually came from Windsor, Mo.
Officer Christopher Ryan Morton, 30, was identified as the officer shot and killed Tuesday night. James E. Waters was identified as the shooter who also died.
“The 911 call that came in was somehow attached to that (Clinton) address,” said Sgt. Bill Lowe during a Wednesday afternoon news conference.
On the 911 call, two women could be heard screaming in the background, but they never spoke directly with dispatchers.
“We’re confident that is not part of this incident (in Clinton),” Lowe said. “But the fact remains they were called to that residence. … In order to determine nothing adverse was going on in that residence, they had to make sure everything was OK. That’s when the tragic incident took place.”
