SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Jordan Peele’s horror sensation “Get Out” has won best film at the 33rd Independent Film Spirit Awards.
Peele also won best director at the annual celebration of independent film, held Saturday in a beachside tent the day before the Academy Awards.
The wins give “Get Out” some momentum heading into Sunday’s Oscars, where it’s an underdog contender for best picture.
Many of the Oscar favorites also won Saturday, including Frances McDormand, Sam Rockwell and Allison Janney.
The last four films to take the top award at the Spirits have all gone on to win best picture the next day at the Oscars.
