    Roger Braun of Kaiwi Construction works on the water line at the former Ma’s Restaurant building. He retired Friday after working for Kaiwi for 21 years.

“Happy New Year!” were the first words out of Marc Valentin’s mouth when he started with KQNG Radio 24 years ago, said Ron Wiley, who has a few more years of experience.

Happy birthday to Annette Leftheriotis, who celebrated her special day on Friday, making it a perfect time to party.

Just next door, happy retirement to Roger Braun of Kaiwi Construction, who spent his last day at work Friday after 21 years with the construction company.

Cami Matsumoto also celebrated her last day at work at Kauai Community College Friday. Now, she’s gotta figure out what she’s going to do with her days.

Glenna Ueunten had some tangor, a cross between oranges and tangerines, at the county’s sunshine market Friday. Supposedly, this is really sweet, she said. Donald and Janice Ishibashi were in town looking for New Year’s food and stopped by the sunshine market, but were looking for mizuna, instead.
