HONOLULU — Bail has been set at $1 million for a man charged with murder in the slaying of a part-time housekeeper at a vacation rental house in Honolulu.
Both Stephan Brown, 23, and his 20-year-old girlfriend Hailey Dandurand were charged with second-degree murder in the death of 51-year-old Telma Boinville.
Dandurand’s bail was set at $500,000.
Neither made a statement while in court Monday, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported .
Boinville was found dead Thursday inside the North Shore house. The native of Brazil worked as a substitute teacher at Sunset Elementary School and cleaned houses to supplement her income. Her 8-year-old daughter was found tied up in a different part of the house, police said.
Boinville’s vehicle was missing from the scene when officers arrived. It was spotted in a Mililani parking lot. Brown and Dandurand were arrested nearby, police said.
Brown was also charged with first-degree burglary and kidnapping and has two outstanding warrants. Dandurand was also charged with first-degree burglary, kidnapping and unauthorized possession of confidential personal information.
It was unclear if they have attorneys.
Their preliminary hearings were scheduled for Wednesday.
