HONOLULU — A briefing to discuss findings regarding the October beaching of pilot whales on Kauai is scheduled at 10 a.m. today at the State Capitol building.
Two state House committees scheduled the informational briefing. No public testimony will be accepted. On the agenda are Jeff Walters, chief of the Wildlife Management and Conservation Branch of NOAA Fisheries, Pacific Islands Regional Office; Bruce Anderson, administrator of the state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Aquatic Resources; Michele Olry, DVM, Kauai Marine Mammal Response field coordinator; and Kristi West, a research scientist and affiliate faculty member at the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology, University of Hawaii at Manoa. Preliminary results from the pilot whale necropsies proved inconclusive.
