Westbound traffic on Kaumualii Highway is re-routed to Akemama Road in Lawai following a two-car accident on Kaumualii Highway. Eastbound traffic was rerouted to Koloa Road. Eyewitnesses reported the red car at right crossed the center line, forcing the truck at left to veer off the road. No serious injuries were reported.

A Lawai woman was injured in a two-car accident Tuesday.

Police were dispatched to a crash at the intersection of Kaumuali‘i Highway and Akemama Road about 12:15 p.m.

According to police, a sedan was driving west on Kaumuali‘i Highway when it crossed the centerline and struck a dump truck that was traveling east. The dump truck was hauling large boulders at the time of the crash, and the impact caused the boulders to spill onto the roadway.

Both vehicles sustained major damages and were inoperable.

The driver of the sedan, a 26-year-old female of Lawai, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the scene.

Police closed Kaumuali‘i Highway, between Koloa Road and Akemama Road, until about 1:45 p.m. in order to clear the roadway. During the closure westbound traffic was diverted onto Akemama Road, and eastbound traffic was diverted onto Koloa Road.

The investigation remains ongoing.
