LIHUE — Monica Oszust, president of the Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay, had no shortage of help Tuesday in installing an automated external defibrillator outside the Kapule Building at the Lihue Civic Center.
“This is an AED which is accessible by the public,” Oszust said. “It’s outside the building so anyone needing it can have access to it.”
The presentation was done following the paperwork road to approval.
“This has taken a while to have been approved by the mayor’s office, but we finally got it done,” Oszust said.
The installation is part of the Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay’s The Heart of Gold Campaign, adopted in September 2016 with a goal to fund and install 50 AEDs on Kauai and Niihau.
Jeff Goodman, the Rotarian who works on refurbishing AEDs and ensuring that the installed AEDs work, said the Rotary Club is fortunate to have such a diversified range of people in its membership.
“This is why the club can do a variety of projects such as the rebuilding of Hanalei Pier, rescue tubes, and the pavilion at the Kilauea Agricultural Center,” Goodman said.
Sally Motta, the county’s deputy finance director and a member of the Rotary Club of Hanalei Bay, said a plaque will be placed with the AED noting that the contribution was made by Dr. Jeff Goodman and Michael Dyer.
