LIHUE – Eirik James Stevens, 51 of Lihue, was sentenced on Wednesday to serve 15 years in prison for sexually abusing a child in his apartment, and attempting to sexually assault another child in March 2016.
The sentence was handed down by Fifth Circuit Court Judge Kathleen N.A. Watanabe after hearing argument from Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Keola Siu and Stevens’s court-appointed defense attorney.
“We are pleased that the judge imposed the maximum sentence in this case and that we were able to spare the victims the trauma of further court proceedings,” said Prosecuting Attorney Justin F. Kollar. “We hope that this resolution will allow them to start the healing process.
Stevens was sentenced in two cases involving the abuse of two different minor children.
In the first case, Stevens was sentenced to serve a 10-year prison sentence on one count of sexual assault in the second degree.
In the other, Stevens was sentenced to serve a five-year prison sentence on one count of attempted sexual assault in the third degree.
The state requested that the prison terms be served consecutively and the judge agreed. Defense counsel argued for probation.
“Our team is also grateful for the hard work of KPD investigators A.J. Morita and Christian Jenkins,” Kollar said. “Thanks in large part to their hard work, we were able to get this sexual predator out of our community.”
