Each year during the month of October, Storybook Theatre of Hawaii has celebrated the life and memory of Princess Victoria Ka’iulani (1875-1899) the last Hawaiian to be the heir apparent to the throne of the Hawaiian Kingdom.
A celebration will take place 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Hanapepe, to commemorate and continue the legacy of “this dynamic Princess who had a vision of commonwealth for her people within the community of the nations of the world as a self-determining kingdom.”
The festival event features the arrival of the princess, dancing and drumming, which will be followed by Kauai’s only children’s main street costume parade led by the princess herself. To end the special day, the princess will have her birthday party with games and prizes for all the keiki in Sparky’s Garden.
The 2017 Festival Princess will be portrayed by Khelcie Brianne Naleimakanalani Rosa who is the daughter of Kenneth and Apryle Rosa of Lihue. She is 11 years old and is in the sixth grade at Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School.
