LIHUE — “We’re sitting now,” said Marieann Perreira, instructor for the Kalaheo Ukulele Band, on Tuesday. “When we perform we’ll all be standing.”
The retired music teacher is continuing her legacy leading the Kalaheo Ukulele Band, which will be among the entertainers at the Senior Food & Craft Fair, presented by Na Kupuna Council, a group of representatives of all the senior centers on Kauai, and the County of Kauai Department of Parks and Recreation.
There is no admission for the fair, which includes other senior center groups joining the Kalaheo Ukulele Band in the entertainment lineup. The fair starts at 9 a.m. and continues through 1 p.m. at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall, Oct. 21.
“Don’t be late,” said Sadie Doi of the Hanapepe Senior Center. “Mitzi Nakayama is going to have some of the banana bread she bakes.”
Kupuna from the senior centers will have craft goods, many made from recycled and repurposed items, as well as food items. There will be door prizes and a silent auction.
“We don’t normally meet Tuesdays,” said Alice Brown, president of the Hanapepe Senior Center. “We came in special just to tag, wrap and price items for the Oct. 21 fair.”
“We’re going to have pork, peas and pimento,” Doi said. “Clyde Nada and my son Stanley Doi are making that to help us.”
