KIMBALL, Minn. (AP) — A central Minnesota high school football team has snapped a long losing skid.
Kimball beat Upsala/Swanville 31-16 on Friday night. The Cubs broke a 42-game losing streak — the nation’s second-longest — and are now 1-5 this year.
First-year coach Johnny Benson says he’s happy for the players, especially the seniors. He calls it “a great win for the community.”
WJON-AM reports Benson says he never mentioned the losing streak to his team. He says he was confident the Cubs would get at least one win this season.
Before Friday night, the last time Kimball won a football game was in October 2012.
Benson played football at St. John’s, where his grandfather, retired longtime coach John Gagliardi, was the all-time NCAA leader in victories.
