The 37th annual Hawaii International Film Festival will kick off next month on Nov. 2 for 10 days of films from all over the world.
One of HIFF’s strongest sections is the Korean film category, and there are nine South Korean films confirmed. They are: “The Day After,” “Glass Garden,” “I Can Speak,” “Man of Will,” “Ordinary Person,” “The Sheriff in Town,” “A Special Lady,” “A Taxi Driver” and “The Villainess.”
HIFF is also collaborating with Ward Village for a free screening of a film every month on the second Thursday. This Thursday, a Korean film, “Vanishing Time: A Boy Who Returned,” will be shown. It stars Kand Dong Won (HIFF 2014) and Shin Eun Soo and was directed by Uhm Tae-hwa.

Today, 6:30p.m.: Dalho tells Deokcheon he can no longer tolerate living with Cheongja. Cheongjae barges in on Young-ae. As Shinae watches Yujin sing to the family, she promises to protect her, at all costs.
Today, 7:45p.m.: Shinae sets a trap for Mipoong. Mipoong ends up being investigated for stealing company information. Jango is taken off the case due to conflict of interest, as he’s her husband. Young-ae gets busy packing when Yoosung hands her a ring.
‘Love Temperature’
Episodes 1 & 2 (Mon.); 3 & 4 (Tues.)
Monday, 7:45p.m.: Hyun-soo quits her stable job at a conglomerate company to pursue a screenwriting career. Jung-sun lives with his own dream in the culinary art world. Jung-sun tells Hyun-soo how he feels about her, but Hyun-soo pushes him away. Hyun-soo fails the screenwriter’s contest, and Jung-sun takes her to Yeouido Park to console her.
Tuesday, 7:45 p.m.: As Jung-sun comforts Hyun-soo, they get closer. A package for Jung-sun is delivered to Hyun-soo’s by mistake. She takes it to him, and he offers to cook for her. Jung-sun and Hyun-soo go on a trip together, and start to develop feelings for each other. Unknown to them, misfortune awaits them in Seoul.
‘While You Were Sleeping’
Episodes 1 & 2 (Wed.); 3 & 4 (Thur.)
Wednesday, 7:45 p.m.: Nam Hong-joo is an unemployed journalist who lives with her mother. She crushes on Jung Jae-chan, a rising rookie prosecutor, who moves in across the street. He is the man in her dream. Hong-joo has foretelling dreams of bad events to come. Park Joon-mo, father of piano prodigy So-yoon, inflicts violent assault on his wife. Hong-joo gets into a car accident, but Jae-chan saves her.
Thursday, 7:45 p.m.: After the accident, Hong-joo and Jae-chan talk about future events and flow of time. Jae-chan is annoyed by Hong-joo’s pesky attachment. Park Joon-mo’s domestic abuse is covered up by Lawyer Lee.
‘Band of Sisters’
Episodes 53 & 54 (Fri.); 55 & 56 (Sat.)
Friday, 7:45p.m.: Dal-hee lives with Hong-shi to find the dashcam video footage, and gets her hands on the drive. Se-kyung investigates the four-car collision.
Saturday, 7:45 p.m.: Kye-hwa becomes suspicious of Se-joon’s frequent outings at night and tails him with Dal-hee. Se-joon comes across a childhood photo of him and Mr. Oh, and is dumbstruck.
