KALAHEO — The weather and range conditions at Kapaa High School postponed the Kauai Interscholastic Federation air riflerymatch between Kauai and Kapaa high schools Wednesday. The match will be contested Friday, weather and conditions permitting.
“I’m glad we’re shooting indoors,” said Sean Magoun, the Island School air riflery coach at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center. “We could be shooting at Island School, but the range is outdoors and we would be looking at the weather, too.”
The Voyagers fired their match against Waimea High School on Wednesday as scheduled at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Led by the day’s high point, Waimea’s Braden Kobayashi led the boys to a 19-point win over the Voyagers, 1,176 to 1,157 points. On the girls’ range, Waimea’s Kristine Ruiz finished a point back of Kobayashi to lead the Menehune girls to an 1,179 to 1,064 point win over the Voyagers’ five women.
Pending the outcome of the postponed match between Kauai and Kapaa high schools, the KIF air rifle marksmen look ahead to the 2017 Civilian Marksmanship Hawaii High School Athletic Association air riflery championships which will take place at the Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall on Oahu on Oct. 24.
Kapaa High School girls wrapped up the KIF title following last week’s win, and the Kapaa boys and Kauai boys will have to wait for the results of the Friday match.
