On Thursday Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi troops have driven IS militants from the town of Hawija, one of the extremists last strongholds in the country. The announcement comes amid a political crisis following a controversial Kurdish independence referendum, but on the battlefield at least, Iraq’s army continues to work together with Kurdish peshmerga fighters to keep IS on the back foot.(AP Photo/Bram Janssen, File)
