Congratulations to Megan Souza on winning the Miss Kauai Teen USA title recently. Megan said she earned top honors in the judges’ interview and swimsuit phases en route to getting the title that earns her a spot in the state competition later this year.
Megan was one of the many people taking in the Rice Street block party (Jim Guerber had a dream of this many years ago), and Gary Maguire arranged to have a team event for the Island School girls volleyball that same night.
County Councilmember Derek Kawakami said after he showed Vanessa Owen’s art club students the stand of sugar cane planted around the corner of the building, they came back and really refined the mural on the wall.
Kudos to Mike Dahilig (we knew that giant chess set would come in handy) and the crew of Ricemakers (the Rice Shopping Center ‘I like Rice’ shirt is nice, too) on doing a great job pulling the event together.
Dennis Chun and his ‘ohana had time to take in the shindig before heading out to greet the Hokulea, and Alton Amimoto had his sister checking out the happenings with his family. Larry Feinstein made it home from Italy (Melinda Uohara’s daughter wants to spend some months —not days, there) in time for the festivities, and that new dim sum truck was parked next to Greg Askew’s Ono Pops.
OK, off to air rifle competition at Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
