Garden Isle Junior Dragster driver Christopher Silva wrapped up a busy Labor Day weekend Sunday with trophies and awards from the annual two-day run at the Kauai Raceway Park in Mana.
Sponsored by RC Fabrication, 420 Air, Don Silva, Ekolu Valpoon, Keola and Janil Ke, Kauai Vehicle Service Center, grandma and Papa and Mama, the young Silva finished with a fourth finish Saturday before improving to a third finish on the short course Sunday.
En route to the consistent finishes, Silva pocketed the GIJD Best Reaction time honor on both days of racing, starting with a 0.042 reaction Saturday and improving to a 0.007 on Sunday.
The young Silva also placed in all of the GIJD 3rd Annual Special Awards presented during the Sunday races. Silva finished in a tie with Sanoe Kaluahine for Best Engineered, was edged out by Ryancie Sakamoto for runner-up honors in Best of Show and got bumped by Ryant Sakamoto for runner-up accolades in the People’s Choice.
On the adult track, former GIJD racer Donaven Gomes, sponsored by K&D Services, Rob’s Towing, S&S Speed Shop, K&S Septic Supplies and the Ching Young Village, was edged out of the top in the Super Pro ET class by Mikioi Edwards.
The next drag race presented by the Garden Isle Racing Association and the Garden Isle Junior Dragsters will unfold Oct. 1. This will be a day race at the Kauai Raceway Park in Mana due to the light restrictions stemming from the fledging season for endangered seabirds.
