George Panaewa Koani
George Panaewa Koani, 80, of Waimea, passed away on Aug. 2, 2017, at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital. He was born on Feb. 22, 1937, in Waimea. He was an electrician and a member of the National Guard.
He was preceded in death by brothers Henry Kuana Koani, Charles K. Koani, Nathaniel Koani and Moses Koani, sister Rebecca Mikala Kekahu, and parents Waiwaiole Koani and Katie Kamai.
He is survived by nieces Rowena Smith of Anahola, Rhoda Simeona of Hilo, Malina Koani of California and Napua Koani, brother David Kapu Koani of Pearl City, Oahu, and numerous grandnieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Monday, Aug. 14, at Kauai Veterans Cemetery, with visitation from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and services from 10 to 11 a.m.
Refreshments will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the committal shelter.
The family requests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.
