WAILUA — A garage fire at a Wailua home caused an estimated $1,000 in damage on Saturday. There were no injuries.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m., Kauai Fire Department personnel from Station 2 in Kapaa responded to a structure fire on Nonou Road. They discovered a fire in the garage area of the single- family home had been extinguished by a neighbor.
No one was home at the time.
On-duty Battalion Chief Jason Ornellas stated that were it not for fast-acting neighbors, the damage to the home would have been more severe.
An investigation continues.
