Seven students shared in $9,000 in scholarships during the recent Contractors Association of Kauai meeting at the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club.
Two recent CAK scholars, Dade Apao of Lihue and Ryan Moura of Eleele, both 2014 Kamehameha Schools, Kapalama campus graduates, received their bachelors degrees this spring, said Jeff Mira, the CAK meeting emcee. “
Apao graduated from the California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo with an engineering degree and will be soon employed by Layton Construction on Kauai. Moura, receiving the first Kenneth Shioi Memorial Scholarship through CAK in 2016, graduated with a degree in Construction Management from Colorado State University in Mesa, and is employed with Goodfellow Brothers on Maui.
Students being awarded scholarships include Jayna Esaki McClaran of Kapaa receiving a $2,000 Kenneth Shioi Memorial Scholarship to complete her doctoral studies in architecture at the University of Hawaii at Manoa by working on her dissertation to complete her post graduate studies. She is the daughter of Jane Esaki and Peter McClaran.
Bennett John-Kanahele Duarte is a May Ke Kula Ni’ihau O Kekaha graduate, and Stetson Borilez is a May graduate of Kapaa High School. Both received $1,000 Kenneth Shioi Memorial Scholarships. Bennett will major in carpentry at Kauai Community College and Stetson will major in electrical installation and maintenance. Duarte is the son of Nancy Kanahele and Bennett Duarte. Borilez is the son of Nancy and Andrew Borilez.
Mason Chow of Lihue, a junior architecture major at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, accepted the $1,500 Guy Matsunaga Memorial Scholarship award from Judge Gerald Matsunaga. Chow is the son of Jill and Russell Chow of Lihue.
Noah Marshall, graduating from Kauai High School in May, will be a freshman pre-architecture major at Portland State University in Oregon. The son of Laurel Loo and Mark Marshall received a $1,500 CAK award to help with his studies.
Elyssa Abigail Gallego is a May Kapaa High School graduate who will attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa as a civil engineering major. She received a $1,500 Hawaii Gas Scholarship. Gallego is the daughter of Alma and Edward Gallego.
Bronwyn Kay is a May graduate of Kauai High School who will be attending Pacific Lutheran University as an engineering major. She received a $500 Hal Martin Memorial Scholarship. The Kalaheo resident is the daughter of Lisa Johnshoy and Anthony Kay.
