Joseph E. Sabala
Joseph E. Sabala, age 84, passed away on June 4, 2017, at his home in Pearl City.
He is survived by his sons, Leonard (Lola), Jonathan Sr.; his daughter, Shelly (James) Espiritu; 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Services will be held on July 8, 2017, at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Mass to be held at 10:30 a.m. Lunch to follow after services.
Manuel S. Melchor
Manuel S. Melchor, 79 years old of Koloa, Kauai passed away on June 25, 2017, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. Born on May 24, 1938, in the Philippines he was a retired from the Maintenance department with Sheraton Kauai Resort.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Crisogono (Emilia) Melchor and Artemio (Rose) Melchor.
He is survived by his wife, Flora Salvador Melchor; sons, Emmanuel (Kim) Melchor, Leroy (Loke) Melchor; daughter, Marie (James) Francisco; 8 grandchildren; 3 sisters, Crispina Gaoiran, Rosa Melchor and Florita Asuncion; brothers, Anacleto (Soledad) Melchor, Ben (Amie) Melchor, Geronimo (Carrie) Melchor and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday July 8, 2017, at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10 am. Burial to follow at St. Raphael’s Church Cemetery in Koloa.

Benjamin Jimenez
Benjamin Jimenez 53, went home to the Lord due to a boating accident on Saturday, June 17, in Seward, Alaska. Ben Jimenez was born on March 31, 1963, in Magsingal, Ilocas Sur, Philippines to Edward and Emma Jimenez. He married Rose Jimenez May 29, 1987, in Kauai, Hawaii.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; three sons, Don (Carolyn), Alexander (Joseline), Benjie Boy (Carla) and his two daughters, Chlowee (Jose) and Olivia (Bayani); his 8 grandchildren, Seoni, Jay, Darien, Myla, Evelyn, Kamaka, Kameela and Lena; father, Edwardo Jimenez Sr. of Kilauea; brothers, Edgar (Lovella) Jimenez of Kapaa, Edwardo Jimenez Jr. of the Philippines, Ronald (Zoya) Jimenez of Kilauea, Randy (Amy) Jimenez of Arizona; numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Jimenez and his grandparents, Juana and Damaso Villahermosa and Catalina and Mariano Jimenez.
He and his family moved to Alaska in December of 1991, where he worked for Providence Alaska Medical Center for the last 21 years. He resided in Anchorage for 27 years. Ben also served in the Army National Guard for 8 years.
Ben loved to fish. He was well known for his mastery in fishing and he also love to hunt. He was an awesome cook and loved to travel especially with his kids and grandchildren.
His family wrote, “Ben’s love for his family, generosity and kind heart were an inspiration to all who knew him. He lived his life fearlessly”. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, July 6 at St. Catherine Church with viewing from 8:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Catherine Cemetery in Kealia.

James Fumio Oyama
James Fumio Oyama passed away on June 11, 2017, in Lihue. He was born on June 10, 1940, and was a retired Hawaiian Airlines Employee.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kiyoshi Oyama and his mother, Kimie Oyama.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Oyama; sons, James “Jimmy Boy” (Lynn) Oyama of Kauai, Dennis Oyama of San Diego, CA, Malcom Oyama, Garrett (Thelma Ramos) Oyama Sr., Brennen (Giselle) Bucao of Kauai and Blain (Kimberly) Bucao of Kauai; daughters, Deedee Ibaan of Las Vegas, NV, Ruby (David) Ishida of Kauai and Brandee (Brian) Holt of Kauai; 25 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Seichi (Ethel) Oyama of Lawai, Kauai, Roy (Glady’s) Oyama of Kalaheo, Kauai and Hebert Oyama of Honolulu; sister, Betty (Earl) Kobayashi of Kailua, Kona and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held on July 8, 2017, at the Garden Island Mortuary. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. with Mass to follow at 10 a.m.
Private scattering of ashes will be held at a later date.

Glenn Lewis Akina
Glenn Lewis Akina of Lihue passed away on June 21, at the age of 81. He was born in Kihei, Maui on Feb. 14, 1936, and retired as the Chief Agent with Hawaiian Airlines.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace Akina; son, Scott Akina; grandson, Tyler Morita; brothers, Joseph, Alvin, Steven, Jerry and Melvin Akina; sisters, Hannah Alexander, Pauline Newman and Gaelic DeLara.
Glenn is survived by his wife Harriet; daughters, Glenda Akina of Lihue, Lee Akina of Wailuku, Maui; granddaughter, Laci Akina of Kilauea; daughter-in-law Vivian Akina; sister Hamby Kahawai of Kamuela, Hawaii Island; brother Nelson Akina of Maui; numerous nieces and nephews.
Private burial services were held at Kauai Memorial Gardens. Family request no Koden.

Michael Lyndon Gray Julian
Michael Lyndon Gray Julian of Puhi passed away at Straub Clinic and Hospital on June 27, at the age of 27. He was born on Oahu on Jan. 13, 1990, and was employed at Wilcox Memorial Hospital as a Pharmacy Technician.
Preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ernesto Gray Sr.; paternal grandparents, Antonio and Cristina Julian and uncle, Ricardo Gray.
Michael is survived by his parents, Dominador and Linda Gray Julian; brother, Dustin Julian; maternal grandmother, Loreta “Gloria” Gray; numerous aunties, uncles, cousins and friends.
Viewing and visitation with the family will be held on Friday, July 7, at Kauai Veterans Center in Lihue from 5 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 8, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
