Gas price averages continued to remain stable throughout the islands as residents and visitors are anticipating the July 4 holiday, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.
The statewide average price is $3.05, one cent higher than a month ago, and 24 cents higher than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
Kauai gas prices range from $3.29 for a gallon of regular unleaded in Lihue to about $2.70 a gallon at Costco, and about $3.60 a gallon on the North Shore.
In Honolulu, the average price is $2.90. The Hilo average price is $3.03. Wailuku’s average is $3.49.
“Historically, June has been an indicator for summer gasoline demand, and this year it’s an indicator that high refinery output outpaces moderate demand and consumers will continue to see a downward price trend,” according to AAA Hawaii General Manager Liane Sumida. “Yet gas prices on the West Coast continue to be the most expensive in the country: Hawaii, $3.05, California, $2.94, and Alaska, $.2.84. Drivers can consolidate their errands, and use the AAA Mobile App to shop for the best price — saving their budget for Fourth of July holiday celebrations.”
