Hunadi not there for Isle Hoops’ win

Luke Hunadi of Isle Hoops was not at the summer youth basketball games Thursday night at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center. Neither was coach Corey Dobashi.

Instead, thet attended the Kauai Chamber of Commerce Second Quarter Membership Meeting at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa, celebrating University of Hawaii athletics with UH men’s basketball head coach Eran Ganot, among seven Hawaii coaches in attendance.

Their absence did not deter eighth grade boys division Isle Hoops as Josh Dobashi took the lead in scoring eight points to lead the team to a 20-13 win over the Thunder who got six points from Tyrus Duran.

During the opening match, a fifth grade boys fixture, Kanaloa Yasutake dropped 10 points and Tevita Vaenuku added eight points to lead the Warriors to a 41-22 showing over Westside, including 10 points from Josiah Delos Reyes. Westside’s coach Dino Pabre was also at the Kauai Chamber meeting.

The Warriors’ eighth grade division boys completed a sweep in Kalaheo with Xaerys Dela Cruz sinking 19 points and Syrus Delos Reyes adding a dozen points in its 56-15 win over the Tamba Warriors who got seven marks from Anthony Durocher.

The summer youth basketball league takes a break until next Thursday.
