Kudos to Kauai Lynx coach Clarence Sales and his ohana on putting together another great Kauai Hoops Classic! Merv Lopes, Clyde Vito, Ipo Yoshioka and all the basketball biggies were out checking the action and enjoying the meeting of new talent. And the basketball players were excited, too!
Kauai Fire Department recruit class members Chandler Forrest, Avelino Ruvalcaba, Justin Kanoho, Jonathan Martin and Tyler Costa were busy helping set up and tear down for the pinning ceremony, getting help from summer interns Jina Lee and Kalau Tanaka Pesamino (didn’t she play golf at one time?). Congratulations on all the promotions awardees!
Kim Tamaoka was out in her new capacity as a county public information officer, and Kaleo Carvalho said the Lihue Lakers were not playing in the Kauai Hoops Classic because the players are only in the sixth-grade … maybe next year?
Congratulations to Judge Alfred Laureta for being recognized by the Hawaii State Bar Association (Kai Lawrence did a great job coordinating the event — he even had Kamika Smith working, and the HSBA board was able to enjoy lunch at Smith’s Tropical Paradise!).
