The Shadow knows!” Jerome Freitas, a retired state Department of Transportation worker who is now better known as Da Shadow, since 2004 has been meeting with county representatives about problems he has discovered or that have been reported to him, and reporting the county’s responses.
Kealia Road
There is a large pothole on Kealia Road as you turn onto the road from Kuhio Highway. Please provide a timeline for the filling of this pothole.
The county will investigate this concern and determine the appropriate agency to respond based on the location of the pothole. State DOT would have jurisdiction of the roadway within 15 feet from the highway.
Waimea Boys & Girls Club clubhouse
What are the plans for repairing the clubhouse structure at the Waimea Boys & Girls Club?
The Waimea Boys & Girls Club currently operates out of the West Kauai Tech Center, which is not a county facility. The former location of the Waimea Boys & Girls Club is also not a county facility.
KPAL building near Vidinha Stadium
The rusted structure was removed, and there is rusted rebar still protruding from the back of the building that needs to be removed. When will this work be completed?
We are not aware of any structure that was removed from this location, or any materials left behind. The KPAL boxing gym remains in active use at this time.
Kolohala Road, Kapaa
Kolohala Road is approximately 10-feet-wide and is being used as a two-way street. This is unsafe for motorists and pedestrians. When school is in session, children attending school park on the side of the boulders making the road much more narrow. Can the county look into making this road safer by considering “No Parking” restrictions or increasing enforcement of unauthorized parking?
There is enough room between the boulders and the roadway for cars to park along the shoulder of Kolohala Road without blocking the roadway. However, we will investigate any parking violations that may occur in this area.
Bryan J. Baptiste Sports Complex
There is a lot of material and scraps being stored next to the skating rink at the BJB Sports Complex. Why is this material being stored there, and if unusable, can this be disposed of to beautify this park?
The Kauai Inline Hockey Association (KIHA) owns this material as the association has an agreement with the county to use and manage the skating rink. We will contact KIHA about this concern.
