• Be part of trash solution

Be part of trash solution

Thank you, Kauai County Councilmembers, for taking a look at the challenge of handling our trash!

We here on Kauai need to come to grips collaboratively in determining what might be the best trash management practices for us to adopt which would be effective and efficient. This is not a problem for someone else to solve; it’s a challenge for all of us to maintain! However, it may be possible for us to coordinate those efforts to reduce waste or adopt ways to dealing with plastics, papers; and establishing guidelines, practices and procedures for residential and commercial entities in our communities — we all need to be a part of that collaborative effort!

We’ve been “passing the buck” on this one by having the attitude of regulating this task to the trash collector by simply dumping what we have. “Out of sight, out of mind,” is good enough.

Well, it’s not!

It’s time for us to roll up our sleeves and take a good look at how we can all become a part of the solution to dealing with trash to protect and preserve the precious finite resources of our beloved Kauai!

It is our shared kuleana (responsibility) to do so!

Jose Bulatao Jr., Kekaha
