KAPAA — Kauai police have arrested a Kapaa woman in connection with a hit-and-run crash that occurred in Kapahi on Thursday night, which left a female bicyclist seriously injured.
Blake Keller, 23, was arrested Friday morning for first-degree negligent injury and accidents involving serious injury and has since been released pending further investigation.
Police believe that Keller was the driver of a Jeep Cherokee SUV that was traveling west on Kawaihau Road at approximately 6 p.m. Thursday, when the SUV struck a woman riding a bicycle along the westbound lane near the Bettencourt Lane intersection. Keller apparently fled the scene without stopping to render aid.
The crash caused the 47-year-old bicyclist to strike a reflector post before landing in a nearby ditch. The Kapaa woman sustained serious injuries and was initially transported to Wilcox Medical Center. She has since been medevaced to Queen’s Medical Center, where she remains.
Police are continuing their investigation of this crash. The public is reminded that all individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
