Young-joo devastated; Dai-hee is framed

Shin Saimdang, whom the current Wednesday and Thursday drama revolves around, was a true person in Korean history.

Born in 1504, her real name was Shin In-sun who was a famous poet, writer, calligrapher, and painter. In modern Korean culture, she was the first woman to be printed on a Korean currency, the 50,000 won note.

Shin was the eldest of 5 daughters and in a Confucian era, where boys were favored, Shin’s grandfather educated Shin as if she were his grandson.

Her unique education and high social class allowed her to have many children, many of whom went on to become civil servants. Most notable was her son Yi I whose pen name is Yulgok who is one of the most respected Confucian scholar during the Joseon Dynasty who is also on the Korean currency 5,000 won note.
