Todd Ozaki, a coach with the youth bowling program, The Kauai Junior Blazing Bowlers, said Bradley Stark earned the under 8 championship during the Hawaii State Pepsi Bowling Championships, which wrapped up April 9 at the Schofield Barracks Bowling Center on Oahu.
They took 13 youth bowlers to compete in five age divisions, Ozaki said.
Bowlers competed in divisions including under 20, under 15, under 12, under 10 and under 8. Winners in the U20, U15, and U12 divisions earned Junior Gold spots into the Junior Gold Championships, which will contest in July in Cleveland, Ohio.
Bradley won the U8 championship this trip.
“All coaching credit must go to grandmother Maggie Tremaine,” Ozaki said. “She was the one who taught Bradley, and his brother Brendson how to bowl.”
During the weekend trip, Dana Murata, an eighth-grade student and the U12 champion from 2016, was joined by Elijah Kim competing in the U15 division, Murata in the girls division and Kim in the boys division.
Maria Luis represented Kauai in the U20 girls division. Boys in the U20 included Ian Luis, Taylen Luis, Travis Planas and Alvin Reis.
Kauai Blazing Bowlers in the boys U12 included Shayden “Bubbah” Peralta and Brendson Stark.
Boys in the U10 division included Trestyn Reis and Akoni Villatora.
J.J. Deguchi joined Bradley Stark in the boy U8 competition.
Ozaki said the Kauai Blazing Bowlers will host a Junior Gold qualifier in May.
