NAWILIWILI — Following four rounds of Kauai Interscholastic Federation tennis, the Kauai High boys and girls teams are unbeaten, winning again over Kapaa High Saturday at the Hokuala tennis courts.
Kauai boys were 3-2 winners over Kapaa, and the Kauai girls were 5-0 winners over Kapaa, which was missing some of its key players.
Kauai coach Charles Fulks said Kapaa’s Makani Crowder showed much improvement in his win over Trevor Carbonel, 6-3, 6-1, and in the day’s most exciting match, the Kapaa team of Mason Buick and Levi Eulalio took three sets, prevailing in the final-set tiebreaker, to down the Kauai duo of Demetrio Castillo and Sage Cierras, 3-6, 6-4, 7 (10-8)-6.
Kauai’s Koa Cierras defeated Kapaa’s Kyler Tom, 6-2, 6-3, in the second boys singles match.
On the doubles courts, Kauai’s Nick Badua and Chris Constantino were 6-1, 6-3 winners over Kapaa’s Jake De Peralta and Cody Andrews.
In the last boys doubles match, Kauai’s Keith Macadangdang and Cameron Navor paired to defeat Kapaa’s Kaimani Dryer and Omar Elwin, 6-1, 6-0.
On the girls’ courts, Kauai’s Anna Burkman survived a long battle over Shannon Sitzler, 6-4, 6-3. Tia Fulks closed off the girls singles matches with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kapaa’s Kiara Dolino.
Kauai’s pair of Hoku Iseri and Kaylin Kukino were 6-2, 6-0 winners over the Kapaa duo of Chiar Fumagalli and Wailana Makepa on the girls first doubles court, and Emily Melchor teamed with Rina Takabayashi to get past Kapaa’s pair of Hannah Collins and Haley Gokan, 6-3, 6-2, on the girls third doubles court.
The girls second doubles went long before the Red Raider pair of Mana Graziano and Miya Reese got past the Warrior duo of Mary Uribe and Leila Nelson, 7-6, 6-4.
On the exhibition courts, Kauai’s Tom Vetter paired with Thaine Ochoco to get past Kapaa’s Omar Elwin and Michael Anderson, 6-1, 6-2.
Kauai’s Mari Kanna was paired with Maria Luis to get past the Kapaa duo of Ruby Udaundo and Ashley Crawford, 6-4, and the final exhibition match was taken by the Kauai pair of Brooke Kanna teaming with Callie Parsons for a 6-4 win over Warriors Haley Gokan and Haylee Garcia.
No results were available from the Island School-Waimea match.
Kauai next hosts Island School Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Hokuala tennis courts. Kapaa will host Waimea at the Hanalei Bay Resort facilities, also starting at 10 a.m.
