Kudos to coaches Jason Caldeira, Clyde Vito, and the county’s Department of Parks and Recreation on finishing the Division 2 basketball games with the girls championship matches at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Coach Fran Constantino and the Sonics were among the crowd and Curtis Broyles (his son Mason is a Sonic) said the Sonics’ game for third place was a heart-stopper, the Sonics getting past Hanakila (they’re made up of a combination of Hanalei and Kilauea players) by just one point.
Congratulations to Bryden Ka‘auwai (he looked like a winner after visiting Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. Tuesday) of the Boys & Girls Club, Lihue Clubhouse on earning the Youth of the Year award in Honolulu! Bryden’s been going back and forth to Honolulu, coming back successful each time. Now, he gets to go to California in June to represent the state at the Pacific Region Youth of the Year.
OK, time to go check out the Hanamatsuri celebration at the West Kauai Hongwanji, Hanapepe Temple (they’re hosting the first bon dance of this year’s season in June, too).
And then, off to see Lorna Santos and Patty Ornellas at the Lawai Cannery Self Storage garage sale benefiting the Relay for Life teams.
