KEALIA — Kauai Police have identified the man and woman who died in yesterday’s traffic crash in Kealia.

The driver of the Nissan Cube who died at the scene has been identified as 28-year-old Markis Carveiro of Kapaa.

His backseat passenger, Ashley Gorospe, 26, of Kapaa, was pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital.

The other backseat passenger, a 28-year-old Kapaa woman, and her two-year-old son, remain in critical condition.

The driver of the delivery truck, 54, of Kapaa, did not report any serious injuries.

Shortly before 9 a.m. Friday, a Nissan Cube was heading south on Kuhio Highway, fronting the St. Catherine Cemetery, when it apparently crossed the center line and crashed into an oncoming delivery truck.

Kuhio Highway was closed in both directions from approximately 8:50 a.m. to 1:10 p.m. while traffic investigators conducted an on-scene investigation and crews worked to tow the vehicles and clear the scene.

Police are continuing their investigation into this incident.
