LIHUE — Wilcox Health will host a free community event Saturday providing education and resources for those living with or at risk for diabetes.
“Diabetes 101: A Healthier You,” will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Wilcox Medical Center and will feature information sessions, healthy meal planning, community resource booths and an Active Living Zone.
Diabetes 101 will kick off with a Walk Around the Block with a Doc, followed by a healthy breakfast and talk on diabetes. Educational sessions will include a closer look at diabetes and its risk factors, an exercise demonstration, and healthy meal planning with a registered dietician. Guests will also receive free health screenings and learn about the latest options and tips on living healthy with diabetes.
“Nearly 600,000 people in Hawaii are living with prediabetes or diabetes,” said Jen H. Chahanovich, president & CEO of Wilcox Medical Center. “Through events like this, we can provide people with diabetes with the tools and resources they need to understand how to manage their condition in order to live a healthy and productive life.”
