Kauai’s “Soul Surfer,” however, was eliminated in Round 1 of the Wahine Pipe Pro at Banzai Pipeline, Oahu.
Hamilton was awarded a wildcard slot on Monday. She got a combined score of 8.35 (4.00 Wave 1, 4.35 Wave 2) in Heat 8 of the opening round.
She was bested in the heat by fellow Hawaiians Brisa Hennessy (10.15) and Aloha Lopez (8.60).
Frankie Harrer of Malibu, Calif., won the final heat with a score of 9.00.
Vahine Fierro of French Polynesia is the runner-up with a score of 7.50.
Last year’s Wahine Pipe Pro winner Mahina Madea of Oahu finished third with 4.75. Hennessy was fourth in the final heat with 3.00.
