Celebrating Prince Kuhio

ANAHOLA — Ka Hale Pono, in partnership with the Hawaii Tourism Authority, the County of Kauai, and the Department of Hawaiian Homes Land, celebrated not only the birth of Prince Jonah Kuhio, but the late Office of Hawaiian Affairs Trustee Moses Keale.

The grounds of the Anahola Beach Park bristled with activity of traditional Hawaiian games, bounce houses with welcome water features, and activities including the traditional konani game and tops created from kukui nuts to keep keiki and adults occupied as the protocol of dignitaries presenting their acknowledgements to Keale’s family occupied the stage.

An offering of crafters and entertainment from community schools, hula halau, and musical ensembles completed the scene cemented by the aroma of food that served as fundraisers for community organizations.

Celebrations of Kuhio’s birthday continue at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa, the Koloa Landing, and at the Prince Kuhio Park where the celebration hosted by the Royal Order of Kamehameha starts at 10 a.m. Saturday.
