POIPU — March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month and to heighten knowledge of the second-most common form of cancer in the US, Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa is hosting its third annual Bum Run on March 25.
The Bum Run is a three-mile fun run/walk/stroll around the front eight holes on Poipu Bay Golf Course. The event is not timed, kids and strollers are welcome.
“The Bum Run has been a great success both in raising funds and awareness,” said Diann Hartman, director of public relations. “It’s a beautiful course which many, unless they golf, don’t ever see so it’s a good opportunity to get out, get moving and support a good cause.”
There will also be educational aspects of this fun event as well as a silent auction and prizes from hotel stays to dining and more. Proceeds go to support the American Cancer Society on Kauai.
After two colleagues were diagnosed a few years ago, the entire resort is passionate about supporting the cause to raise awareness, encourage regular screenings and know your family history.
“More than 500 people have participated in the past, including many visitors to the island, we hope this third annual event will be a huge success as well,” Hartman said.
Registration is $30 for adults, $15 for ages 6-17, kids 5 and under are free. Online registration is available at Active.com just search for “bum run” or “koloa.” Registration on race day is from 3 to 3:45 p.m. at the Poipu Bay Golf Clubhouse, fees are an additional $5 the day of the event.
