Waileia Mabel Gonsalves
Waileia Mabel Gonsalves of Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on Feb. 25, 2017, at the age of 20. She was born in Lihue, Kauai on April 6, 1996, and worked at Whiskers Resort.
Waileia was preceded in death by her daughter, Haevin; great-grandparents, Joseph and Katherine Rego, Rafael and Mabel Gonsalves and uncles Damien and Clifford Gonsalves.
Waileia is survived by her mother, Teresa Gonsalves; twin sister, Waihea, sister, Toby; brothers, Keawe, Issac and Blade; niece, Peyton; maternal grandparents Raphael and Veronica Gonsalves; her faithful, furry best friend Toti; numerous aunties, uncles, cousins and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, March 17, at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall with viewing from 10 a.m. Services celebrated at 11 a.m. Friends may visit with the family till 2 p.m.

Remedia Simon Battulayan
Remedia Simon Battulayan of Lihue passed away at home on Feb. 22, 2017, at the age of 88. She was born on Jan. 25, 1929, in Marcos Ilocos Norte, Philippines, she was a housewife.
Preceded in death by her husband, Elpidio Battulayan; father, Rufino Simon; mother, Catalina Simon; brother, Pacifico Simon; sisters, Felicidad Simon and Linang Simon; son, Don Battulayan.
Remedia survived by children: Benhur (Delia) Battulayan of Eleele, Alberto (Anita) Battulayan of Kekaha, Erlinda (Primo) Ballesteros of Hanamaulu, Patricia (Nestor) Mangrobang of Ewa Beach, Andy Sr. (Melda) Battulayan of Kalaheo, Julie (Alex) Castro of Lihue, Benita (Amir) Felizardo of Lihue; sisters: Purification Juan of Kona, Reymunda Battulayan of Philippines, Virginia Navarro of Philippines, Edita Pablo of Philippines; brothers: Ricardo Simon and Agustin Simon, both of Philippines.
Has 28 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 10, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, visitation from 6 to 9 p.m. Again on Sat. March 11, 2017, at Immaculate Conception Church in Lihue, visitation from 8 to 9:45 a.m. Mass will be at 10 a.m., Burial to follow at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park Cemetery.

Thomas Patrick Contrades
Reverend and Deacon Thomas Patrick Contrades of Kapaa died on Feb. 24, 2017, at the age of 67. He was born in Lihue on Aug. 28, 1949. Thomas was a Deacon for the Diocese of Honolulu assigned to St. Raphael Church in Koloa, Chaplain for the Kauai Police Department and a retired Business Agent for the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU). Thomas served on several government commissions throughout his life, including the County of Kauai Planning Commission, the Hawaiian Home Commission and the State Land and Use Commission. Thomas was a former volunteer with the Kauai United Way, Hale Opio, Kauai Ecomonic Opportunity, Na Kupaa O Kuhio and the Boy Scouts of America.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dora and Joseph K. Contrades Jr., brother Maurice Coopman Contrades and grandson Thomas Patrick Leines.
He is survived by his wife Jacquelyn Contrades; Children Michael (Darlene) Contrades, Elisabeth (Dayne) Tomori, Jennifer (Joshua) Leines, Timothy (Melissa) Contrades, Tyrus (Erica) Contrades, and Jessica Contrades, (Brianna Borrero); Hanai children Rozlyn Ladera and Kehaulani Ching; Grandchildren Micah Contrades, Courtney Contrades, Joseph Contrades, Brennen Contrades, Tyzen Contrades, Lucy Leines, Gavin Leines, Mahealani Huddy, Koa Yamamoto and Kailani Yamamoto; Siblings Stanley (Jean Yim) Contrades, Patricia Happek, Monica Contrades, Susan (Dennis) Brooks, Therese Staszkow, Annette (Steven) Manaday, Robert Contrades and Lisa Curtin.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at St. Raphael Church in Koloa. Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. with services to follow at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be held at St. Raphael’s Church Cemetery following the service.

Dick Lowry Wright
Dick Lowry Wright of Kalaheo, died peacefully at home on Feb. 23, at the age of 77.
He was born in Oklahoma City on June 1, 1939.
Before retirement he was Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Elko, Nevada. Earlier in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he was a chemical dependency counsellor and headed his own law firm. After retirement in 2006, he became Pastor Emeritus of Lihue Lutheran Church on Kauai.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ammon and Helen Wright and by his sister Carolyn Wright.
He is survived by his wife, Liedeke Bulder of Kalaheo; daughter, Elaine (Sam) Larsen of Nichols Hills, Oklahoma; sister, Barbara Arrington of Lubbock, Texas; stepsons, Marcos Larson of Illinois, Jim (Kelly) McIntyre of Oakland and Steven (Kim) McIntyre of Savage, Minnesota and by granddaughters Emily Stack of Austin, Texas, and Storm Larson of Peoria, Illinois.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, March 26, at 3 p.m., at Lihue Lutheran Church.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lihue Lutheran Church Mobile Munchies program or to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
