Kilauea house fire displaces four

KILAUEA — No injuries were reported after a house fire on Kilauea Road displaced four adults Thursday evening, according to Kauai Fire department officials.

Fire inspectors estimate the damage to the structure and its contests to be roughly $250,000.

When firefighters arrived to the scene at 11:22 p.m., they found the second story of the two-story home engulfed in flames.

Personnel from the Hanalei, Kaiakea, Kapaa and Lihue fire stations responded along with the on-duty battalion chief. Volunteers with the American Red Cross also responded to the scene.

The fire was under control by midnight but firefighters remained at the property until approximately 1:45 a.m. to extinguish hot spots and clear the area.

While firefighters were on scene, police closed Kilauea Road from Kolo Road to Lokela Street. The roadway was reopened at approximately 1:50 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
